Custom PVC & Soft Vinyl (Sofubi) IP Figures

Two different processes sit under the word "PVC figure": solid injection moulding, which gives sharp edges and tight multi-colour detail, and hollow rotocasting — sofubi — which gives a light, squeezable toy. Which one you need depends on the product, not on cost alone.

  • Solid PVC or rotocast
  • MOQ 500–3,000
  • Sharp multi-colour detail
  • Sampling 2–3 weeks

Process and material

Solid PVC injection

Liquid PVC is injected into a steel mould, which holds fine edges and small text. This is the process behind most collectible figures and the reason PVC detail beats silicone — but tooling costs several times more, which is why MOQ starts at 3,000.

Rotocast soft vinyl (sofubi)

Liquid vinyl is poured into a copper mould that rotates while it cures, leaving a hollow shell. The result is light, slightly squeezable and cheap to tool, which is why designer-toy runs start at 500 pcs.

Where silicone wins instead

Silicone resists heat to 200 °C, tolerates skin contact and stretches without tearing. PVC gives sharper multi-colour detail at lower tooling cost. If your figure will be chewed, left in a car, or needs to stretch, silicone is the honest answer — we make both, so we have no reason to push one.

Questions buyers ask about pvc & soft vinyl figures

What is the difference between a PVC figure and a soft vinyl figure?

A PVC figure is solid, injected, and holds sharp detail. A soft vinyl figure is hollow and rotocast, so it is lighter and squeezable. Both are PVC-based; the process and the mould are different.

Why is the MOQ higher than your silicone figures?

Steel injection tooling costs several times more than a compression mould, so the tooling has to be spread over more units. Rotocast soft vinyl starts at 500 pcs because copper moulds are cheaper.

Can you hand-paint small details?

Yes — hand-painted detail is standard on rotocast figures. It is slower and adds cost per unit, so we agree a paint master before production.

Is PVC a problem for EU or US buyers?

PVC faces tightening restrictions on lead and phthalates in the EU, and it is not PFAS-free by chemistry the way silicone is. If your market is sensitive to that, silicone is the safer story — but PVC remains legal when it meets the limits.

Can you make a blind-box series?

Yes. We handle the assortment ratio, the chase figure, and the sealed inner box. Sculpt and paint for a series usually takes 3–4 weeks rather than 2–3.
